Hokies Fall In Opening Game Of NCAA Baseball Tournament

Virginia Tech (16th nationally) lost their first game in the NCAA Baseball Tournament to The Citadel (30th nationally).

The Hokies starting pitcher was Justin Wright who pitched a complete game against Georgia Tech in the ACC Tournament. Wright had a rough outing against the Bulldogs giving up six earned runs in 5.1 innings pitched.

The Hokies' bats were silent the whole night batting .250 as a team. The only bright spots were Austin Wates who went 3-4, Tony Balisteri who went 3-4 with a run scored and Sean Ryan who went 1-5 and hit a two-run homerun.

The final score of the game was 7-2 in favor of The Citadel.

The Hokies will now play an elimination game against the loser of the South Carolina/Bucknell game.

Virginia Tech will have to win both of their games to have a shot at playing in the NCAA Super Regionals.
